Bail Bonds and the Class C Felony
There are two broad categories of crimes that are commonly accepted throughout the United States, these are: 1.) Felonies and 2.) Misdemeanors. Felonies is further defined by different categories, being categories A, B, and C. Following is a brief explanation of each.
- Class A Felony: these crimes tend to have heavy punishments including up to live in prison and $50,000 or more in fines.
- Class B Felony: these lesser crimes have somewhat lesser penalties of up to 10 years in prison and fines starting at $20,000
- Class C Felony: these are the least of the felony classes and carry penalties including up to 5 years in prison and fines from $10,000 on up.
These standards may vary somewhat from state to state but the general concept is the same. Of the three classes a class C felony is the most likely to be bail eligible. Bail for a class C felony varies depending on the offense, the severity, and whether or not the defendant has any prior arrests for the same offense.
